Fitting and Receiving Veneers

Before a decision is made regarding porcelain veneers, Dr. Yamaguchi will determine whether the patient’s needs and goals will be best met by this particular treatment. Once it’s agreed that placing porcelain veneers is the right course of action, Dr. Yamaguchi and the patient will discuss how to customize the veneers, including the color, shape, and size of the prosthetics, for best results. This discussion helps ensure the patient gets results that are as close as possible to what he or she wants.

Once the look of the veneers has been decided, the first step of the treatment process involves stripping a small amount of enamel from the teeth being treated. This way the veneers can slip comfortably onto the teeth for a natural appearance.

An impression of the shaped teeth is then shipped to an off-site laboratory. From this impression, the individually customized set of porcelain veneers is made to exact specifications. (Once the impression is made the patient is given temporary veneers to keep the teeth protected.)

After the porcelain veneers are made and sent back to our office in Lake Oswego, the patient comes back in one last time to have his or her temporary set replaced with the custom-made veneers. Once securely attached to the teeth, any slight modifications or adjustments can be made to ensure an excellent fit.
